Fashion, television, print, and electronic media presents many opportunities for the right male and female models who have more than just a pretty face and a striking physical appearance.
Often a pleasing voice (and better yet a recognized voice) is enough to anchor a brand to a solution that an advertiser offers. Just take a look at the actors that are performing voice-overs in commercials and appearing in television advertisements, for example.
Today’s models have a presence that transcends mere appearance. Many models, actors and actresses today are hired to do more for a brand than look attractive. More often the models must be able to engage people and entice people to take action such as buy a product or call for a service.
For those that believe they have what it takes to be a promotional model, there are a few things that they must do in order to get their career a good boost in the right direction.
Obviously, you will need good photo images and your specifics such as your height and weight, build, eye color, hair color, ethnic appearance, any special skills or abilities such as being bilingual, sports activities (there are often calls for fitness models), if you have tattoos or piercings, and any particular modeling experience you have.
Agencies will want to know why they should hire you or better put, why their clients should hire you, and why those clients will want to re-hire you again, so be sure to put some thought into your presentation.
A helpful persuasion effort is to provide the employer/agency with quality: images, recordings, videos, print advertisements--anything you supply to an employer needs to be of quality if you are to be perceived as a professional that merits consideration. Remember, you are competing with other models and actors that are also after the same opportunities that you are.
The more that you can provide an agency, the less work they have to do. That makes it easier for them to sell you to their clients. Equally impressive are references if you have them. Remember that a promotional model is not only attractive but engaging.
When clients find out how well you interact with people or how impactful you were with helping a sale or a presentation, these qualities will improve your ability to be hired, not just because you look attractive, but also because you understand how to generate interest, maintain the attention of groups of people, and how you handle one-to-one conversations and help move people to the next step.
